Fresh Rumours to Undermine Brown?
After the flurry of activity in the blogosphere yesterday around whether or not David Cairns would walk the plank there is a new wee nugget on the blogs today.
There is a rumour (note rumour, heavy heavy caveats on this) that a poll is due out tomorrow that shows that if a UK general election was to be held tomorrow that Labour would such suffer a massive defeat and the Conservatives would be returned by a massive majority.
The generally reputable ‘UK Polling Report Blog’ says “No confirmation yet, so take this with a shovel-load of salt, but a rumour has just reached me of a MORI poll tomorrow showing the Conservatives at 52%, Labour at 24% and the Lib Dems at 12%. Seriously, I’ve no idea of the provenance of this and have no idea how trustworthy it is, so treat it with due scepticism.”
Note the many many warnings on the veracity of this before anyone gets too overcome with this.
If (IF IF IF) this poll is right then it has...
52% Conservatives
24% Labour
12% Lib Dem
12% Others
Over at Political Betting the story has been picked up and they have managed to confirm that MORI have carried out a poll and that it is due to be published on the newswires at midnight but would not confirm or deny the indicated results.
Where did these rumours come from, hot on the heals of Cairns resignation and just before the Labour conference?
